Diary Entry

This week I have been practicing using the camera and looking into the places that I can shoot my scene. We got in groups and shot a wide variety shots, these were then edited to create certain styles of shots.
Split screens were basically two shots that were split in half and made into the whole screen, this can be used to show two different pieces of performance at the same time or show maybe the same person but in a different place.
Another camera technique we used was slow motion, slow motion was visually exciting as the slow motion helps emphasise on the small things and make them attractive. In our piece we threw water at someone which looked entertaining in slow mo.
We reversed the clip and it also looked good as its not every day you see water coming from the floor to someones face and back into the cup.
The next clip took a while to film as we did a split screen but kept the camera in the same position. I had to make sure that I didnt enter the other region or it would not work as in editing I had to crop out the other half, this gave the illusion that there was 2 of me in the same area.

Digipack photoshoot

My original plan was to do a nightshoot and to take a photo of my character at a bus stop when the bus is pulled up. As the time got closer I realised a few of the problems that I might come across when filming at night and problems with the type of shot I want.
Firstly the lighting was practically pitch black so we had to use flash, the only problem with flash is that it made it look like the picture was taken in the daytime and not at night due to the light.
Also because I wanted a bus to be infront of my character I could really only take 1 photo every 20 minutes as I had to wait for the bus to come and also there would be people coming off it that might be in the way.

Because of these problems I decided to go to my back up photoshoot which would be to represent the last scene and to have the text in the right hand side. When filming my last scene there was cardboard in the background which I realised could be used as a canvas to write my title on either on photoshop or in real life.
I am doing the final photo's for my digipack tonight and will upload a picture of my sketch on my next post.

Inspirations

Brief

1. A promotion package for the release of an album, to include a music promo video, together with two of the following three options:·

a website homepage for the band;·

a cover for its release as part of a digipak (CD/DVD package);·

a magazine advertisement for the digipak (CD/DVD package).

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have chosen to create a music video as I feel that I can experiment with the effects and I beleive that I have the appropriate recources to do so. I have never done a music video before but I love being creative with media and the skills that I have learnt from AS will help me with the editing.

Album cover Analysis

The title Transition is positioned in the top left and is over him, this highlights the transition that he has made from the dark to the light which is metaphorical for his past.
The white light in the background creeping through the black can denote how there is a positive future for this person
The chain that is showsn is called a “Jesus Peice” which is a religious symbol but is expensive, showing his materialistic state of mind still
The dark background is still seen behind him emphasising its in the past.

Chase and status are affiliated with bright yellow so this is their trademark.
The dog in the background is a british bulldog crossbreed, which explains how this urban british music is going to spread worldwide.
And the greyscale background hints how it is emerging
This album cover is one of the most simple covers I have come across but if you look deeper into the artists music and actually have an udnerstanding of the culture then you can see why they have designed it in this way. I am a fan of chase and status and they make rave music which is dubstep and drum and bass. This music is known as hard, urban, british and grimey.

The E backwards is not just done for style but it is because it is his 3rd major album that he released.
The curtain open is awaiting his exit and is in relation to the title of the album.
The blue shade on the artist puts him in a good light but sparks the feel of death as it seems as if he is losing his colour.
The old crowd that is here makes no sense unless you are a fan of his music. The reason why he was quitting music was because of the father role that he had to take on and this meant that he had to change his music meaning a different audience.

Proposal

I will be using myself, Luke Edwards, Liam Graham, Alex Mavro, Kayvaan Kapadia, Joe fitchet and most likely a couple other people in the background to represent a 'lads holiday.' I am planning to be in a group of 10 and only 4 of us will be in focus in the camera, the others will be walk-ons or act as passers by so they won’t be really shown much. The club that I am hoping to be using is Escape and the owner is Jeff Lim who I will be contacting shortly to ask permission to film in.
I have chosen 2 locations to film in, this is because my first location (the night club) I am awaiting permission to film there and the other location will be in my friends house in Eastcote where the opening scene will take place. Within the club I will be filming on the dance floor where the main movement happens and the bar where you purchase the drinks.
The song I have chosen is ‘The Streets – Blinded by the Lights’ or it will be the remix which has a slight change to it which is called ‘The Streets – Blinded by the Lights Nero remix.’ The reason I have chosen this song is because of the synch in the sound and some of the lyrics. It resembles the party style scene and essentially represents alcohol and showing the lifestyle of a young stereotypical teenager at a party. The song has a deep emotional meaning as well and I think it triggers the depressive drunken emotion which some people can relate to.
The music video will hopefully have been shot before the Christmas time period this year, this gives me a sufficient amount of time to edit and if needed reshoot my video. I have some editing ideas that I would like to play around with so if I get it done as soon as possible I can have time to test these techniques out.

Equipment

TThe digital technology that I will be using will be cameras and other digital equipment which will be supplied by the media department and my camera at home. The quality of the camera's are the same so there will be no difference if I was to use different cameras for a scene. Thanks to the progression in digital technology can we now see what the clip looks like instantly after we recorded where as in the 1980's the camera crew would have to record the scene and judge whether to keep the recording or not. There is also a new experience for the viewer as the visual quality of cameras have improved and now you can purchase a good quality camera much cheaper. This is similar with the sound of the recording as in every aspect of digital technology has improved significantly. I will be using a handheld camera and this will give the effect that the viewer has an insight to the video and will be as if they are experiencing it first hand. Having a hand held camera is another development in technology as cameras used to be big and bulky and this would make me unable to record as having a big camera would be expensive and hard to move around. Another camera which isn't a usual choice for a music video is the Iphone, it is still HD quality and has a high amount of memory which could potentially come in useful for small scenes such as on the plane if bigger cameras are not permitted.

Generic Elements of the Product

The way that the artists are seen is extremely important in a music video. The song can show how the artists are in person and explain the meaning behind the song.
Rap songs for example would usually go with the stereotypical nature of hip hop and would use materialistic items such as lots of money and nice cars and be shown in a wide shot ect to emhpasise the amount of items that they posess.
